A carved figure of Bacchus, made by captured British sailors in 1776, survives in the library as a remarkable local wartime artifact.

Additional context

The library preserves the carved Bacchus associated locally with British prisoners held in Windham during the Revolution. The building itself began as the Windham Bank in 1832.
